McLEARN, Selina "Liny" Valentine-92, of Selmah Hants County, passed away peacefully November 27, 2013 at The Magnolia in Enfield, where she has lived for the past three years. Born in Minasville, Hants County, on February 14, 1921 to the late William and Margaret (Reynolds) Singer, Liny was the second born to a family of 9. Liny was a graduate of Kay's Beauty School, Windsor in 1938. Shortly after, she married her husband Graham and moved to Selmah where they raised their family. After the tragic drowning of her husband in 1968, she obtained her drivers license and joined the work force to support herself and their young daughter. Liny worked at Cox Brothers Poultry Farm in Sterling Brook and then became the Curator of the Lawrence House Museum in Maitland for many years until retirement. Liny was a member of UCW and worked diligently for all groups and events held in her community. She was a member of Court Martell, Canadian Foresters. Liny took great pride in her quilting and sewing. Liny did embroidery, knitting, and also loved to crochet. She made sure we all received a gift of her home crafted treasures. She was always working on something or taking in a friendly game of cards at any of the local card parties. She loved to bowl and created wonderful memories by taking her grandchildren to Truro on school breaks to teach her bowling skills followed up by a hearty lunch at a favorite restaurant. Liny loved baseball as well. Survived by sons, Vernon (Shirley Kennedy) and their children Christopher and Stephanie; Gary (Carol Burns) and their children Gary James and Alicia; daughter Beth (Robie) McCulloch and their children Erin, Laura and Graham; 9 great grandchildren, sisters Audrey Kitchen, Edna White and Doris(Arnold) Sanford, brothers Blair(Nora) Singer and Alton (Edna) Singer. Liny was predeceased by her husband Graham McLearn, infant daughter Alice, sister Emma Cochrane, brothers James Singer, Harry Singer. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held 2pm, Saturday, November 30, in Maitland United Church, David Danaher, LLWL officiating. Family flowers only.
