Obituary of Laureen Ella Ashley
ASHLEY, Laureen Ella - age 63, of Lantz, passed away peacefully with family by her side on October 20, 2022 in the VG Site, QEII Health Science Centre, Halifax. Born in Lantz, she was a daughter of the late Aub and Marg (Walker) Paley.
Serendipitously Laureen and Peter, her life partner and best friend, were born on the same day, month and year. Their stars collided at the tender age of 16 and so their story began. Several moves and two sons later they arrived at their "Gathering Place" in Lantz where she made sure their many friends and families never left without a full stomach and warm hug. Her devotion to her boys Matt & Bry was unwavering, as was theirs to her. Her world expanded when along came her little munchkin, Adeline, who completely stole her heart. Her days became filled with "Gram" moments, from shopping adventures, to crafting, attending dance recitals, and meeting Adeline's bus. She truly cherished her "munchkin" moments. Her home was her haven where you could find her cleaning up after a gathering where she loved taking care of everyone. She was "MUM" to many. She would indulge in some of her favorite things. These included ice cream; jiving and her dance party favorite, John Fogerty's "Centerfield"; a feast of bread and steak with gravy; early evening changes into her PJ's to relax in bed and read a good book or watch TV. We would be remiss not to mention her love for all pets, including her own past and present.
To our beloved Laureen, a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend, we love you and will miss you always and hold you close in our hearts forever.
She is survived by her husband, Peter; sons, Matthew (Crystal), Bryan (Kaitlin); granddaughter, Adeline “Munchkin”; brother, Chris (Karen) Paley; sisters, Tammy (Larry) Urquhart and Anne Hill; sisters in-law, Dawn Paley, Patty (Kenny) McKenna and Isabel (John) Isenor; brothers in-law Jimmy (Helen) Ashley, Harley (Trudy) Ashley, Michael Ashley (Gaye Rawding) and Charlie Ashley (Rose Barbosa), and several special nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Joan (Gary) McCarthy and brother, George Paley and brother in law Buddy Hill.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie.
Memorial donations may be made to the IWK Health Centre Foundation.
