Obituary of Eileen Fitzgerald
FITZGERALD, Annie “Eileen” – age 92, of Gays River, passed away on July 18th, 2023, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in New Haven, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine (Trimm) MacLeod.
Eileen worked at Nickersons, Middle Musquodoboit Medical Centre and Imperial Oil, Gays River. Eileen’s main role was caregiver to all especially her husband, Sandy, and her mother. Eileen loved to knit, crochet and sew and she made sure each grandchild had a quilt made by “Grammy”. She was actively involved in the Gays River United Church in a variety of roles including being a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, elder, clerk of session, treasurer, choir member and as a cemetery director. Eileen was a great cook and loved to share her meals with family and friends. Anyone visiting was sure to leave with a full stomach.
Eileen is survived by sons, Lester (Lorraine), Darrell (Heather); daughter, Gwen (Barrie) Locke; grandchildren, Amanda, Sandy, Suzanne, Christopher, Stephen, Jessica, Cody; great grandchildren, Chevy, Summer. Justus, Nevaeh, Evan, Ryan, Katelyn; great great grandchildren, Hendrix and Oaklynn; sisters, Hilda Courtney, Patricia "Pat" MacKinnon; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Alexander “Sandy”; sister, Phyllis; brother, Gerald in infancy.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes Shubenacadie and Elmsdale. A private graveside service will be held.
The family would like to thank all home care workers for their compassionate care of Eileen.
