Obituary of Gail Kathleen Ledwidge
LEDWIDGE, Gail Kathleen – age 49, passed away peacefully on December 11th, 2023 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with her daughter, Samantha, and her husband, Michael, by her side. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of Inez (Logan) and the late Lester John Isenor.
Strong, courageous, brave. Words that sometimes get overused but were three words that described how Gail confronted her disease. First diagnosed with liver cancer in 2014, then spread to her lungs in 2016. Oncologists told her to live her life, do what she wanted to do in the next year as metastatic cholangiocarcinoma is a fast moving, fatal cancer. Like many other things in her life, Gail took that diagnosis head on and battled it fiercely. At one point, a biopsy was done because the doctors couldn’t believe that she had this aggressive disease and continued to live her life.
Gail loved the outdoors – four wheeling, washer toss, campfires and camping at Wide Open Wilderness/Eagle Ridge as a seasonal camper for many years. Previous to that, watching her daughter, Samantha, play hockey was a rewarding experience for her. She created many long-term friendships through the many facets of her life.
Gail is survived by her husband, Michael; daughter, Samantha; and her beloved dogs. She’s also survived by her mother, Inez Isenor; brothers, Brent (Al Morgan), Lantz; Phillip (Roseanne), Dutch Settlement; Derrick (Kelly Preeper), Lantz; Leslie (Tara), Nine Mile River; Don (Beverly), Dutch Settlement; sister-in-law, Christine Logan; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her father, she was predeceased by brother, Michael Logan.
Special thanks to Dr. Alwin Jeyakumar at the VG and Dr. Don Rowe and the nurses in the chemotherapy ward at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, friends, family and all of those that supported Gail and gave her a smile these last several “bonus” years of her life. Also, a special thanks to Cecil Vance and David Wood for their continued support in her journey.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Friday, December 15th, 2023, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. A funeral service will be held in the same location at 11 am on Saturday, December 16th, 2023. Rev. Dr. Jane Magrath officiating. A private interment will follow.
Donations in Gail’s memory may be made to the SPCA.
