BOWER, Ralph Clayton. Our hearts are filled with sadness as we, the family of Ralph Bower, announce his passing on August 11th , 2014 at the Victoria General Hospital Site, Halifax. Born in Avonport on October 7, 1928, he was a son of the late Arch and Annie Bower. Prior to his retirement, Ralph was an employee of The Shaw Group Ltd. For forty-seven years. In his early years, his love of softball meant that left field was his domain and well under control. Fishing and camping were two of his passions; especially the times when his grandchildren accompanied him on these excursions. His yearly garden was always high on his priority list each spring. Whether on a snowmobile or ATV, he loved the outdoors and time spent with friends. Over the last couple of years, and even in his final days, his role as caregiver to his wife confirmed his love and devotion for her. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vivian, sons Wade (Betty), Lantz; Barry (Verna), Pugwash; daughter Shelley, Lantz; grandchildren Jeff (Julie), Lindsay (Darren), Chad (Susie) and Brett (Lori); great grandson Dax; brother Morris (Barb), sister Ruth Ross, brother-in-law Mel (Mary) Keyes; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother Victor and sister Marjorie Carroll. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. No visitation by request. A graveside service for family and friends will be held 11am, Thursday in Christ Anglican Church Cemetery, Lantz, Rev. Canon David Fletcher officiating assisted by Rev. Patty McKenna.
