Obituary of Hazel Elizabeth Wilband

WILBAND(COLLINS) Hazel Elizabeth, of Gays River It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Hazel passed away peacefully with family by her side in Truro, on December 24, 2016. Born in Gay’s River on August 20, 1924 she was the daughter of the late John and Ellen (Webber) Collins. Hazel worked as a cook in various logging camps before returning to Gay’s River where she was a lifelong resident. She enjoyed being in her garden, spent many hours knitting and was a member of the Gay’s River United Church. On June 3, 1941 she married Ervin Wilband and was a devoted wife until his passing on February 19, 1996. She is survived by son, Gaius (Clara), daughters, Ethel (Ken) Clark , Beverly (Gerry) Peterson and Myrtle Dillman. Grandchildren, Danny (Diane) Wilband, Danelta (Pete) Ellis, Stanley Wilband, Donna (Daniel) Hynes, Martha (Andre Lamothe) MacKenzie, Andrea (Stephen) Bezanson, Greta (Walter) Prosper, Douglas (Angie) Clark, Twyla Wilband, Johnnie Wilband, Michael (Del) Peterson, Blaine (Sonya) Peterson, Crystal (Darren) Miller, Elizabeth (Bill) Hutchinson, Delbert (Jennifer ) Dillman, Bonnie (Clark) Melville. Great – grandchildren, Daniel , David, Deanna, Denise, Dwight ,Darren, Danielle, Stephen, Brigitte, Tanya, Justine, Celeigh, Morgan, Trevor , Ashley, Brittany ,Mark, Marissa, Matthew , Brodie, Jesse , Jessica , Sarah, Owen, Tanisha, Emma Lynn, Riley, Blake, Lyndsey , Joey, Kaitlyn, Megan , Dawson and Ryan. Great-great grandchildren, Millie, Paige, Sawyer, Freya, Payton, Harmoney, Thomas, Zara , Gabriel, Sophia, Mason, Bronwyn, Suzie, Lydia, Julia, Nash, Isabelle and Regan , Sister in law, Shirley Collins ; many nieces and nephews and special cousin Bernice Leeson. Hazel was the last surviving member of her immediate family Besides her husband, she was predeceased by son, John, son in-law, Carl Dillman, sister Elsie Pyne, brother, Ross Collins, a son in infancy and grand-sons Dwayne, Mitchell and Carl. Visitation will be held 7-9pm Tuesday December 27 at the Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2 Shubenacadie, from where a funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday December 28, (live webcast to begin at 10:55am AST) Lori Crocker, DM officiating. Spring committal will be held at 11am on Saturday May 20, 2017 in the Gays River Cemetery, Gays River.
