BENOIT, Matilda -74, Indian Brook, passed away at home on April 15, 2013. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late George and Margaret (Paul) Paul.She always strived for the best, regardless of the situation. Matilda was an elder in her community. She was a very crafty woman she made wooden baskets and flowers. Matilda presented Queen Elizabeth her traditional wooden flowers. She taught others the traditional craft she carried on from her elder, Aunt Madeline Knockwood along with sewing to the community. Matilda respectfully tried to keep her Mi'kMa'w heritage and culture alive, especially through her old native tongue. She is survived by her children Mary Agnes (Bob) Casey, Debbie Crowley, Carol Williams (David), Mary Paul, Ikey Marr, Cecile Marr and Blair Marr; 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters John, William 'Loppy", Roy all of Eskasoni; Diane Vancouver, BC,; George "Juice", Peter "Chaps", John Edward "Jackie", Gabriel "Gubby", Craig, Janet, Eleanor, Sharon all of Eskasoni; Patsy Paul-Martin (Barry), Truro;. She was predeceased by her husband Louis Benoit, daughter Margaret "Maggie" Paul, brothers Peter Herney, Ryan Paul and Louis Paul "O Boy", sisters Mary Ann (Malian) Marshall and Georgina (Francho), grandchildren Ryan Paul and Kyle Marr. A time of respect from 10-11am, followed by a Mass of Resurrection Thursday, April 18, in St. Kateri Roman Catholic Church, Indian Brook, Father Tom Kurudeepan O.M.I. officiating.
