I just heard today about John’s passing and my condolences to his family. I used to get lobsters shipped out west to me and John was always great to talk to on the phone. I never did meet him in person, but feel like I knew him well. He always spoke about his daughters and you could tell how proud he was of his family. May God be with you during this tough time and the holiday season. Thank you John for all those years helping make my life easier knowing you were looking after things for me. Justin Tidd

Always enjoyed my time with Johnny. He was always there with a grin
We had fun with our little business together years ago travelling and chasing a dream of success. Johnny was very hard dedicated worker. I enjoyed working with him .... training him .....and then when he hired me I enjoyed watching his professionalism. Over the years we always stayed In touch.... I loved when he started and ended his messages with hey or thanks Bainer. Johnny was there during my hard times and I enjoyed helping him through his.....
I really don’t remember Johnny ever saying no to an adventure, even when I had him on back of my motorbike one time zippy-around shearwater airport, he got off and did t say he didnt like it but just expressed concern
Musically I always wanted to help him express himself, I was surprised and glad when he showed up at our cottage concert one year, he didn’t say a word just sat with me enjoying the music. He absorbed music
We would always talk before each Boston Seafood Show.... how are you travelling when will you be there etc.... then meet up, I would introduce him to my customers because I knew the type of care they would get from his service
Johnny will be sincerely missed, the Van Tol’s are like an extended family to us

My hearfelt sympathy is extended to all John's cherished loved one's.
I lived in Milford many years with my family and in the VanTol family, knew John the best, being closer in age. Memories of John were that although quiet in group settings, his sudden humour came out of no where, both unexpected and refreshing. His demeanour made those around him feel welcome - something about being a Milfordite and years at HERH were fun & memorable and differences in fellow schoolmate years simply disolved - a result of close-knit communities throughout Hants Co.
John will truly be missed by family & friends beyond words. RIP

Losing someone that has crossed our life's past is nothing easy, but knowing that we have been able to be a part of John's life, we can realize that we are blessed to have been able to share in his life before he went to rest in eternal salvation. I (Gordon) travelled with John to the Netherlands, my first trip overseas. I will never forget that adventure. Our condolences. Gordon & Karron Thomas.

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to all of you in the loss of your Son, Brother and Father.
I've known John since we started junior high at Hants East and remember his quiet demeaner and smile as we walked the school halls with me doing all the talking.
I hope all the wonderful memories that you have of John bring you comfort in the months and years to come.
Thinking of you all at this difficult time.
