BURTON, Donald L 85, Elmsdale/Sydney passed away peacefully in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor on February 26th. He was born on July 20th, 1927 in Bay St. Lawrence, Cape Breton. He was the son of late Susan (Young) and James Burton. Donald was employed with Municipal Ready Mix in Sydney for 37 years. When he was in better health he enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking, four wheeling, snowmobiling, gardening and being outdoors. In his later years he enjoyed going to the Seniors Social Club at the Elmsdale Legion, going to his great-grandson's hockey games, bowling and Set for Life scratch tickets. Donald was a member of St. Bernard's Church in Enfield. He is survived by his son David (Judy Kennedy) of Sydney, his daughter Sheila (Darryl Garnett) of Elmsdale; sister Hannah of Neils Harbour; seven grandchildren: Raymond, Joanne, Mac, Joanne, Morgan, Jo-Lene and Jennifer; Twelve great grandchildren: Alexis, Victoria, Sariah, Brielle, Benjamin, Cody, Jordan, Dylan, Darian, Ashlyn, Kyra and Camden, he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Josephine Fitzgerald and their infant son, Roland; his brother Willie and sisters Emma and Angustine. Visitation will be held at Ettinger's Funeral Home in Shubenacadie on Friday, March 1st from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Bernard's Church in Enfield on Saturday, March 2nd at 11am, Father Andrew Rembarcyzk officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donald's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the VON nurses who cared for Donald in Elmsdale as well as the nurses at the Hants Community Hospital for their excellent care and kindness in his final months.
