Please accept my deepest condolences. I was saddened to hear this. Tony was a great shipmate and friend. I will always remember the four years we spent together on the Athabaskan from 1990 to 1994. I was Just posted to Athabee and it was off to the Persian Gulf. Me and Tony hit it off right away being fellow Newfies and all. Tony was my boss for four years and made life a lot easier in the Gulf and back in Halifax. I remember back in homeport we would sometimes go to Tony’s PMQ to play Nintendo Baseball. We golfed quite often as well. We had tons of fun.
Leaving us way too soon, Tony will surely be missed.

Nancy and Jeffrey..
I am so sorry for your loss and my deepest condolences to your entire family. Tony was a big personality with a robust laugh and a quick smile mixed with a bit of mischief. He was always eager to share a joke and a laugh and was a constant visitor at our door at the Clinic . I will always remember him with a smile on his face. He liked to call us all down on the first floor " The Cellar Dwellers" and we adopted that title for our rag-tagged team for our clinic team building events. I still think about him every time I pass the Irving Big Stop , as he affectionately called it " Da Irvin" in true Newfoundland style. That still makes me smile. Rest In Peace Tony.

Barb and family please accept my most sincerest condolences on the loss of Tony. I had first sailed with Tony on Margaree when we did NATO 83. We enjoyed some great runs ashore. He and I enjoyed being the life of the party constantly, I guess that's why we got along so well. We sailed again on AthB several years later and we still shared a great sense of humour. Our careers took us to many different places however when we bumped into each other it was always like old home week. When he retired and worked at the hospital I always found time to go downstairs to chat with him. We shared a lot of salty dits and always enjoyed a great laugh. He never lost his true Newfoundland accent and thank god because it really was infectious when we laughed.
He was a great messmate and a great sailor. I was very proud to call him my buddy. Since I have been living out of country I try to keep up with the local news and when I saw that Tony passed, I choked up. The world is a little sadder without Tony's great sense of humour and gift of laughter. I am a better person for having known him and shared many pints. My thoughts and prayers and with you as you navigate your way through the pain. All the best to you Barb, your family and close friends.
God bless.

Nancy and Jeffery, Karen, Gloria and Barbara, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember watching Tony pound and tickle the piano keys as a young child when visiting Aunt Lottie and Uncle Gord in the old green house down on Humber Road. I was in awe of his talent and enthusiasm. He patiently taught me how to play When the Saints Go Marching In. Years later, I looked up to him for joining the Armed Forces and prayed for his safe return from the Persian Gulf. Now, I am praying to help ease your pain. A part of Tony will live on in you ❤
Love,
Jennifer McWhirter and family

Nancy and Jeff our hearts ache for you both. I first met Tony back in Shilo when Jeff and I were just young boys.
