I'm a bit late here, as I just heard of Phils passing. I met Phil at the Greenwood Saddle club when he first came to Canada. I learned to fly at the same time and flew with him a few times as well. I can remember being his passenger during a flour bombing competition at the flying club. While I wasn't a horse person, my family had a horse and a couple of times Phil convinced me to go on "trail rides" with him. He said he liked to do these when he needed to get away and have fun on a horse. Scared the crap out of me. The horse was willing to follow Phil, I ran out of control about 10 minutes in and was along for the ride. Fond memories of Phil for the short time I knew him RIP

Thank you Phillip, you are missed. without you and Dee, our life (Adam and I) would have looked much different. Our favourite memories are with you and Rhaman Farms. Adam and I spent our first dates, our engagement and our wedding with you. And thank you for walking me down the aisle. Your incredible wealth of knowledge has benefited so so many over the years and we are all better to have spent time with you.

In loving memory of Philip James Hinson, truly an original and one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Although it's been 40 years since I last saw Philip, my memories of him are still so clear & vibrant- a gentleman with a clever wit who charmed everyone he met. He & Dee were truly soul mates & my heart aches for her during this difficult time.

What a dear sweet man. I am so saddened by this news and for your enormous loss, Dee, Stuart and family.
Such fond memories, having a BBQ and chatting around a fire. Philip always could make me smile.
I also remember the time he went to my daughter's class in school and chatted about his time working at the Royal Mews. It was the absolute highlight of her entire school year. (plus she shared his love of horses).
We will all miss you Philip. You have touched us all in a profound way.

Dear Dee, Stuart, Graham and Janet,
We were so very sorry to learn of Philip's death. He held a special place in our hearts for almost a half century, from that first riding lesson he gave me at the Halifax Jr. Bengal Lancers Adult Ride, to the shoulder he provided with a wink when I almost came off my mount after a difficult jump, and our continued friendship ever since. Visiting you in the Mews was the highlight of our trip to London when you lived there, and I treasure the photo he gave me of him in his uniform of The King's Troop. We will remember him with fondness and a smile. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult and sad time. With our most heartfelt sympathies, -- Mary Barker and Ron Gilkie

Dee I was so sorry to hear of Philip’s death. What an amazing equestrian and a life lived large! I know he’d been in pain this past while so I’m glad he no longer has to deal with that, but I know you will miss him dearly. My thoughts are with you and his family.

My daughter Amanda and I met Philip through the horse world, he stabled our horse Percy and was there at horse shows to encourage Amanda on, giving her the encouragement she needed. A true friend, kind loving person and above all a true horseman. We will miss you Phil, heaven has gained a talented riding instructor

What heartbreaking news. Philip was an incredible character and always had a great story to share, and an extra sip of gin to go around. Truly, a classical horseman. A deep loss to all who knew him. Kick on sir, kick on ❤️

Our prayers and sympathies to you, Dee. We knew Philip was not well but was shocked to read of his passing. We have missed his waves, smiles and chats at the bank, Sobey's and across the ends of our driveways. We always enjoyed taking our young grandsons over to see the horses. Sincerely, Mabel and Murray Wellwood

I met Philip when he worked in life insurance sales, back in the 80's. He had that twinkle in his eyes always. I mostly recall a large Oslot cat that he and Dee had as a pet. Rest in peace sincere sympathies to Dee

Hi Lorraine,
Thank you for your kind comment and memories !
The margay cat was actually a rescue owned by Carolyn , Philip's first wife. She was devoted to cats.
Best wishes,

I first met Philip in the early 80’s when he had recently joined the staff for Her Majesty the Queen at the Royal Mews in London.
We immediately became friends and he was a revered Instructor for the HAC Saddle Club and a valued employee of the Royal Family. Philip had exceptional skills and talent, he would come down to our farm in the country on days off and ride out or school the horses there. Philip was full of life and the place came alive when he was present. His life was made complete when Dee arrived in London and they married. We were all great friends, we had so many laughs and good times, many an evening was spent in the apartment above the stables in the Mews. Dee is godmother to my daughter Elizabeth, and they both embraced that role with relish (see photo of Philip with Elizabeth introducing her to one of the Queens’s Carriage horses) When they returned to Canada is was a huge wrench. We missed them dreadfully, Elizabeth came out to visit as soon as she was old enough.to fly on her own. A very special friendship continued via the Internet - RIP you wonderful man - gone too soon xxx

I went shopping for my first horse with Philip. We went all over NS and to NB, with Philip telling all sorts of stories along the way. Dinners out at Curley’s, “fruit based drinks for the ladies” (Clare, Kensa, Janice, Dee and I) in the garden, cross country schooling at Salmon River, unofficial lessons every time we showed up....watching the World Cup and listening to stories about and dreaming of England with him are all some of my favourite memories. Every time I see RHA on TV I think of Philip. I’m sorry we didn’t get to visit more my last few trips east.
