Douglas 'J. Scott posted a condolence
Sunday, January 3, 2021
Hey, Don's people, Don't expect a traditional ´´so sorry'´ Litany of condolences from this one... I've been laffing n smiling all day since Bev MacD.wrote to me with this news.
-- Douglas S.of HERH, thinking on the Cam Clan and wishing you well , in a bright future after Don's passing :---
DonCam to us Scotts will always be a Scout, DarrelRobinson's close pal , a schoolmate and our team-mate, way back in the 1970s... and forever young, plus a ´´character'´ AND a great laugh. Every day, every week cept Sundays. Sorry, you tee-totallers, but I gotta put down a pinta beer with the Cam Clan this Sunday, 03.01-2021. I have already got two Wildcat equivalents in the fridge , ready to pop at 12:01 French time, drinking yr health and thinking of Don, Shubie, U'rbania & our Donnie's descendants... .
Can't tell y'all how many times we laughed at Dollar Lake ...when Donald Scott and Gary A.were scouters, or innthe Milford Road bus going back from HERH . Heh! The times that kids laughed when we mentioned motors and Donnie put em straight on the number of cylinders and how Japanese -import cars inthose days had ´´sucked-out motors and only wimps & Stewiacke women drive those,´´ ...´´ you gotta be crazy to buy one... even third -hand, never mind new'´. No offence to Stewiacke ladies, mind.
...
Hey, boats or cars... This DonCam chap knew engines, nuts n bolts, as squirrels know nuts... Then there is , from my 2nd youth ---- we were around 13 -16 or 17 under guard of Watchful Hholmes Withrow, hockey coach extraordinaire---- the supporting yells of the bench and ''bigmouth '' niceguy D. Robinson hollering, ´´Go , Cammy, Baby, go...´´ and often Don scored... and we knew that that drive of his on the ice would guide him on to bigger , greater goals. Later, we often saw him dntown at the garage, then about 1977 and 1989 both my bro and l moved off to Ont.and to NB., and lost contact, but we never forgot the school and hockey days with our D' Cameron, a model for us in sports and a well- rounded man in so many ways.
Here in N. France on 03rd J'an., l was indeed sorry to hear that he popped into his last penalty box at my age. I thought ´´there goes a guy that has scored so many hat tricks in sport and in life... in a shortened span, ´´ and we trust he was spared pain, knowing only the sorta pleasure that he gave his fellow scouts, all his family and folks around him. I am thinking on you good folks and wishing you all the best for 2021. Thanks for the Good Times, Donnie. Reqiescat in Pace. Yours aye, --DS for the Scotts of Shubie, Sackville and Paris area.

Other than the usual thoughts of Donnie’s teasing and his chuckle and the twinkle in his eyes when he was telling a story, I remember one visit in particular. We were over from PEI one time, I don’t know how old I was, but I was over in that side of the house playing with Joey, and we decided to go across the road to see the horse in the field . . . Was it Janice’s? Donnie came over after awhile and offered to take us for a ride. It was probably the first time I had been on a horse that went faster than a walk, because of course, Donnie had to make it go fast. . . but then again, anything other than a walk would have been fast for me. We were probably only going at a trot, but it felt like I was going to fall off. I expect he got more than he bargained for, as I am sure that I was holding on to him for dear life.
I wish that circumstances would allow us to attend the memorial for Donnie. My thoughts are with you all.

Always up to something, you knew better than to turn your back on a good snowball day and every time I do the Cryptoquote I think of him because he would try to solve it before filling in the letters and lots of times he was right but I never let on!! To DonCam’s lucky family, I didn’t know your Dad at all but I learned a lot about his wonderful, mischievous, exciting life through his obituary. It was so uplifting to read such a joyous celebration of his life. I recently lost my own Dad and struggled with the writing of the obituary. You have managed to present your Dad as full of life, which in my opinion is exactly what an obituary should do. May you receive many stories from those who were lucky enough to know him and I hope you are all at peace with his passing. Signed, an appreciative stranger who feels they knew your Dad.

I always think of Donnie as being a positive vibe in every room. I think even when he disagreed with someone he never seemed angry. I believe his term for various things was that it was " horse shit" . Which was never said in anger, just a fact :) He was a community builder in everyway. He made friends and shared friends everywhere he went. We will miss him but enjoy a beer of the day and remember him often. ...well not too often :) RIP

My condolences to Cameron family. I have many great memories of Donnie and it was always nice to see him when our paths crossed over the years. One memory that always makes me chuckle is back when we had a split shift at high school. We had the afternoon shift and thought it would be good idea to get into my fathers liquor stash on the top shelf of the linen closet. We had lots of laughs on the bus and in school until the guidance councillor, Donald Scott, got us in his office. He said you fellows sit here and don't move. I'll see if I can keep you out of trouble. Thank you Donald and thank you Donnie for the memories.

Mr. MacBeth often took us outside to the on-site skating rink; He organized skating races and Donnie almost always came in first, with me a close second (I grew up trying to keep up with the boys skating on the pond). I never was able to get past him. I also saw Donnie and Abby at Elks hockey games; he used to have some good stories and jokes to share then. He left lots of wonderful memories for many people to reflect on; a great legacy!
