Obituary of Doreen June Keyes
KEYES, Doreen “Toots”- age 86 of Lantz passed away March 9, 2021 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Dutch Settlement, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Emily “Mildred” (Ashley) Hines.
Growing up in a large farm family, Doreen was a hard worker from a young age. She made her first batch of bread at age 10. She loved baking and was known for her delicious chocolate, pound and carrot cakes. She worked for Cara Flight Kitchen at the Halifax International Airport where she prepared desserts. She and Ritchie enjoyed going on road trips with family and friends.
Doreen will be sadly missed by her daughter, Sherry (Andy) Isenor, Dutch Settlement; grandson, Jason Isenor, Dutch Settlement; granddaughter, Tara Isenor (Gino Martin), Hammonds Plains; special grand dog “Indy”; siblings, Paul (Frances) Hines and Juanita (Elwood) Preeper, both of Dutch Settlement; Melba Campbell, Lantz; Perry Hines (Tammy Hinch), Carroll’s Corner; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard; brothers, Keith Hines, Foster Hines, Blanchard Hines, Ricky and Sylvanus Hines in infancy; sisters, Marina Ashley and Wanda Isenor.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to St. George’s Anglican Church in Dutch Settlement or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
