Obituary of Brenda Hope Kelly
KELLY, Brenda Hope – age 73 of Shubenacadie, passed March 2, 2022 in the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Digby, she was a daughter of the late Otis James and Mary Louise (Hazelton) Darris.
After Brenda retired 35 years with Hershey’s, she was the kind of person that learned how to run and maintain a large tractor, cleaned her own chimney and went Tidal Bore rafting near the Bay of Fundy. Her determination and willingness to do anything for her family was evidenced by many facets of her life and in the memories of those she left behind.
She loved her granddaughters Zoe Hope M. and Zara Louise T. Kelly deeply. She wasn’t daunted by life, choosing rather to unravel obstacles. Whenever her son or daughter-in-law had a dilemma, she helped navigate as a source of strength and sound counsel.
Brenda resided on her estate for 50 years with her husband for 44 of those. Both embraced and had a passion for nature and wild life and looked forward to the return of the hummingbirds and flowers every spring. Even on his passing she stayed close to her husband in a home and life they had built together. She enjoyed listening to her son’s Glen Vincent James and Happiness Mitchelle Kelly’s (Harry) stories of life, work, and travel abroad and their life in Manitoba. Though the distance was great, they still shared the dinner table many nights. Heaven has gained an angel; she will be truly missed and forever cherished as a mother and grandmother. May her soul continue to rest in peace.
Survived by her son, Glen (Happiness); granddaughters, Zoe and Zara; brother Gary (Elaine) Darris; sister Joan Darris;
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by Helen (David) Campbell, Ottis (Belle) Darris, and Carl Joseph Darris.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home.
