I first met Ron in 1964 when I joined DeHavilland Aircraft in Toronto. Ron was a mechanic at Test Flight, where he worked on many different aircraft. When the brand new Buffalo aircraft arrived in the department, Ron quickly became "the go to guy", and when the Buffalo went on a "round the world" sales tour, Ron was chosen to accompany the aircraft to keep things ticking smoothly. Ron and I both joined the Hydrofoil team (The FHE-400) during its build in Sorel, Quebec, and later during its Trials period in Halifax. Ron distinguished himself during the Hydrofoil's trip to Bermuda and Norfolk, Virginia, when the ship's Diesel engine quit on the final leg outside Halifax harbour. Ron approached the skipper of the 400 and explained that he could put the Diesel back into service by using some unorthdox procedures. The Captain was very pleased when his vessel sailed into harbour under her own Diesel power. That was Ron - he might have at times, been unorthodox, but he was the best mechanic that I have ever seen. I am proud to have known him, and been his friend for nearly fifty years.

Met RON when I was a crew member on Bras d’Or. Worked together in the engine room. Ron also took me on a couple of flights in his aircraft. I remember his son navigated using road maps, clever. An easy man to geT along with and a great sense of humour, he will be sadly missed . Ian Urquhart.
