Micheal (Mike to his family) was my youngest brother. I remember when he was brought home from the hospital. I was a little annoyed that he was a boy. I so wanted to even our family out at 4 girls and 4 boys.. How dare he be a boy. After about a day or a week or a minute I loved him anyway. He was an annoyance as most little brothers are but we played together a lot.. We played school and of course I had to be the teacher. We played dinkies in the yard and the ditch. We played outside until the street lights came on. We played some silly game on the back steps, much like the ones at his home today, with a rock and questions that you had to answer correctly to proceed to the next step. Silly childhood games. As an adult our get togethers usually involved BBQ''s for birthdays or Christmas get togethers, pretty much anything involving food.. Mike loved to eat. His favourite foods in my mind were lobsters and sweets, especially haystack (no bake chocolate coconut) cookies. Mike was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He neve missed a family event although he did manage to get lost trying to find my place. We just waited and eventually he found me because of course there was food and family and he wasn't missing out on that. Mike was he baby of the family and he grew into a loving, caring man. I will miss him. Love always Sharon

Our family has always been close knit, and for that I am so extremely grateful. Yet it makes it that much harder when you lose someone like Uncle Mike. I would always seek out Uncle Mike at family barbecues and Christmas dinners to talk about our shared passion for the Montreal Canadiens. He was a wealth of knowledge about hockey and could talk for hours about the team. I loved listening to him share some stories about past players and I could fill him in on some new information. When my opinion differed from his, he listened and then told me how I was wrong. And because it was Uncle Mike telling me this, we would chuckle together. I never thought that I would miss anyone telling me that I’m wrong about something but here I am, quietly shedding a tear. Say hi to the Rocket for me.

As a VON nurse, I was honored to have many visits with Mike. I will certainly miss our chats and his humor, tormenting me about being a Maple Leafs fan. He will be missed immensely. Thoughts are with you Darlene, and your family at this difficult time.

It's always hard to lose a dear brother and even harder when that loss is a dear friend. Years ago Mike and I regularly manned a table at a large flea market and had so much fun doing it. More recently, I'll miss those once-a-week visits he paid us when he was out and about doing his weekly errands. He was a huge help in my solving the New York Times crossword puzzle. He had a knack of visualizing the grid without ever seeing it and often had the answer before I did even though I was the one looking at it. he will be so much missed by so many.
