I met Margot through a mutual friend in London, Ontario. The year was 1976 and she was on her way home after some travelling. After she was diagnosed with MS she stayed with me in San Diego where we had an epic visit to La Bufadora, Mexico. In 1984, I was on my way to visit my parents and she was returning to Halifax. We crossed the country together with many a firelit evening and one night of Northern Lights crossing our sky.

I am so sorry to learn that we have lost Margot.
Margot was an amazing woman – a mover and shaker. With all the health issues she found herself facing, she still accomplished so much more than most healthy women are capable of. No matter what difficulties her health may have caused her, she never hesitated to use everything including all the brain power she held to see her way through to her next accomplishment. What an extraordinary woman !!
I worked with Margot in the early 2000, until injuries – by a distracted driver – interfered. However, over the years we kept in touch via email. I have been so very fortunate to have known her. Her strength and courage have been an awesome inspiration to me. What an incredible human !!
My sincere condolences go with you, Jeanette, Jane, and the rest of her family and friends during this sad time. I know she will be sorely missed by many.

My first memory of Margot is of watching her roll into a ballgame in Minasville on her motorcycle. I thought she was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. Years later, I had the good fortune to spend some time with her. My initial impressions of Margot were confirmed when I discovered that she was indeed a very cool woman. She was also smart, funny, kind, and articulate, and she made a mean linguine with clam sauce.
My deepest condolences to Jeanette and her family on the loss of this remarkable woman.

I am very saddened to hear of Margot's passing. She and I worked in the same United Kino Hill Mine in Elsa, Yukon Mine in the late 1970s. I remember Margot's no nonsense attitude, her ready smile, her red checkered lumberjack's shirt which she wore around camp. If memory serves Margot was also a serious pool shark.
It takes a certain kind of spunk to face down life when saddled with a debilitating illness like MS. for so long and Margot lived life with grace and courage, and not a ounce of self-pity. These things of her character will remain luminous.
I am sorry that I did not get to see her more recently in my one or two trips to Halifax, but I have friends who kept me posted.
I send my condolences to Margot's family and friends for this loss to us all.

I met Margo when I started at H.E.R.H. as we had many classes together . To call her anything but vibrant would never cut it . She could be serious , but also out for fun at anytime - sometimes to the dismay of a certain teacher who was very difficult to bond with . Her smile was unforgettable . I hadn't seen Margo since high school but knew she had M.S. While visiting my in- laws at Northwood Centre , probably 10 years ago , we met her at the main floor elevators . It was so great to see her but sad at the same time as she had lost so many of her abilities - but never her smile . Rest easy Margo - you have earned your wings !

To the Parker family,
My sincere condolences to you all.
I only hope I have the strength and determination she had with her horrendous battle with MS as I have it as well.
MS is such a terrible, debilitating disease and she fought long and hard.
God bless to you all.

I met Margot in 1977. She and I became pals. When I met her family, I knew I had found the apple that didn't fall from the tree. I extend my heartfelt condolences to that remarkable family. Margot: You were a force that no one could, or would deny. We are all so lucky to have reckoned with your strength. Your spirit will forever be my compass. Happy Trails Kiddo! Love, Gabriele

I only knew Margot for perhaps the last 15 years of her life, but I admired her greatly for her patience and perseverance and sweet nature in spite of the raw deal that life had given her, and I became very fond of her. My heartfelt sympathies to the family who have lost such a strong and courageous member. She will be long remembered by all who knew her.
Requiescat in pace (at last).

It is so sad to say goodbye to my amazing cousin Margot. Though our times together were brief and infrequent, her presence in our world was always a given. Her strength and courage will always be an inspiration for me.
In September 1985, Margot convinced her visiting aunt Marg, my mother, to go for a row on the lake. Though Marg was somewhat uncomfortable being on the water, Margot delivered her safely back to shore.

Dear family,
I want to extend my sincere condolences on Margot's death. I met Margot many years ago when I volunteered to visit and read to her. She had a very soft heart, and I soon realized that I had to be careful what I chose to read to her. Reading from Alistair MacLeod's short story collection one afternoon, I noticed that she was crying over the death of a beloved farm animal. Soon we were both crying. After that, I tried to select humourous readings only. Eventually, we began to simply chat or play Scrabble on her computer when I visited. She soon became a friend and taught me to play Bridge, a game that she loved.
I regret that I didn't have the chance to see her more often after Covid struck. She was a beautiful person.
