Obituary of Donald Alexander Romkey
ROMKEY, Donald Alexander, age 92, of Stewiacke, formerly of Fall River and Enfield, passed away on April 21, 2023 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Imperoyal Village, he was a son of the late Prior and Claire (Bannerman) Romkey.
Don had a paper route as a young boy and worked at a Dominion grocery store later in his youth. As an adult, he started working for Imperial Oil and ended his career with that one company. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, canoeing and making model boats. He and Nellie liked travelling the back roads of Nova Scotia and were fortunate to spend several winters in Florida after retirement. Don always had a dog… and in most cases it’s name was “Scamper”.
He is survived by children, David (Patti) Romkey, Pam (Peter) Fredericks, Bruce Romkey and Peggy (John) Aikenhead; grandchildren, Nathan, Raelene (Manny), Emily (Thomas), Daniel, Jimmy (Kelly), Marie (Dan) and John Curtis; 4 great grandchildren; brothers John, Paul (Hughena) and Robert; sister Nancy (Frank) Smith; numerous nieces and nephews
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Nellie; sister Aline Hubley; sisters-in-law, Audrey Romkey and Del Romkey
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Shubenacadie and Elmsdale.
A graveside service will be held 11 am Friday in St Thomas Cemetery, Fall River, Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall.
The family would like to thank VON Nursing and Home Care Staff, as well as the staff of Cedarstone for the excellent care given to our father.
