Obituary of Robert Joseph Miller
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MILLER, Robert Joseph, age 73, of Enfield, formerly of Shubenacadie, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family on June 27, 2023. Robert grew up the eldest son of Darrell and Sadie Miller in Northfield, NS.
At nineteen years of age he left to pursue opportunities in Halifax at Metropolitan Stores, then returned home at 20 years of age to work with his father in the woods. Robert met his wife of 51 years (Margaret) at a Shubie dance and the rest is history. He then started working with Margaret’s family on their dairy farm, marrying the farmer’s daughter in 1972. They later purchased that farm and evolved it into a large dairy operation while also raising three children, Monica, Jeanette, and Bruce. Robert retired from dairy farming in 1999 and returned to logging for an additional 12 years, eventually retiring in 2012 when he became an avid supporter of Margaret’s career. Robert could often be found hunting, driving four wheelers, traveling with Margaret and friends, playing with his kids and grandchildren, and was always up for a good laugh with friends. Even in his final moments he was laughing and smiling with friends and family, reminiscing about his childhood and good times, and making sure that everyone knew how loved they were.
Robert is predeceased by his son, Constable Robert Bruce, parents Darrell and Sadie (Ettinger), brother Bruce, sister Rebecca, and infant twins Roy and Rose.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Knol); daughters, Monica and Jeanette (Craig Christensen); cherished grandchildren, Austin, Paige, and Troy; brothers Blake, Angus (Rassat Anjum), and Paul (Elaine); sisters Sheila (Allen) Neil, Bertha (Aubrey) Densmore, Cheryl (Malcolm) McLellan, and Lida (Wayne) Fitzgerald; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Ettinger Funeral Home in Shubenacadie from 1pm - 3pm Friday, June 30, 2023. Anyone wishing to share a story or hug is welcome to attend. Reflections on Robert’s life will be shared at 1:15 pm. Refreshments to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Brookside Cemetery (Shubenacadie) or to the Corridor Community Options for Adults (CCOA) Building Fund in Enfield, NS.
