Obituary of Thelma Georgina Baker

BAKER (Phalen), Thelma “San” Georgina Beatrice – age 79, of Upper Nine Miler River, passed away on Sunday August 27^th, 2023, at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.  Born in Carrolls Corner, she was a daughter of the late Dunlap and Annie (Langmead) Phalen.

San enjoyed Saturday night dances and Sunday afternoon jamborees, always arriving two hours early. She enjoyed playing cards with family and knitting. San’s lifeline was her telephone; if you were lucky enough to be on her nightly call-list – you better be home during your allotted time slot! – Otherwise you missed your chat and she was on to the next person on the list.

She will be sadly missed by her soulmate, Reg MacPhee; daughter, Dawn (Bobby) Ashley; daughter in law, Sherry Baker; honourary son, John Hiltz; grandchildren, Ronni (Garrett), Miranda (Ryan), Victor (Taylor), Cameron (Kayla), Connor (Taylor); great grandchildren, Oscar and Penny, excitingly awaiting more; special great niece, Willy; numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, San was predeceased by her son, Barry; and an infant son, John; siblings, Mary, Gordie, John “Bun”, Angus; Hilton and Elizabeth in infancy; brother in law, Harold Ledwidge; sisters in law, Thelma Phalen and Doris Phalen.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1pm to 3pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. Interment will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, Upper Nine Mile River.
