Obituary of Ben Vermeulen
Vermeulen, Ben (Gysbertus Theodorus) - age 92, of Milford passed away peacefully on October 21, at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro. Born in Breugel, Netherlands on February 12th, 1931, to Andreas and Leonarda Vermeulen (Sanders). Ben experienced the liberation of Holland in 1945 and was always very grateful to the Canadian soldiers.
Ben and his new bride, Anna, immigrated to Canada through Pier 21 in 1955. Settling in Milford, NS, they built a large-scale dairy operation with their family. In retirement, Ben enjoyed his involvement with the Milford Lions Club and travelling with Anna. His passion was farming, and the farm was where he felt most at home. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna, sister, Elizabeth, and brother, Martin. He is survived by his sister Maria in the Netherlands and many nieces and nephews.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Andy (Karen), Gerald (Debbie), Leona (Gerrit), Adrian (Melanie), Joanna, Verna (Michael), and Wilma. As "Opa", he will also be dearly missed by 21 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
A special thank you to the Palliative Care team at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre.
The family will be holding a private celebration of life in his honor.
