Obituary of Paul VanHerk
VANHERK, Paulus Abraham “Paul” – age 83 of Alton, passed away on March 27th, 2024 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Pijnacker, Holland, on April 4th, 1940, he was a son of the late Abraham and Sietje (de Bruin) VanHerk.
Paul and his family immigrated to Canada in 1952. He became a successful dairy farmer and later as a hobby he took up tractor pulling with his tractor, “Just an Udder Puller”, which was so aptly named.
Paul did his very best throughout his life and was always so kind, generous and true. He was blessed in his life with many friends and family and our wish is to thank them for their friendship. Paul’s life was complete with his family, although not a demonstrative man, he loved them dearly.
Surviving is his wife, Diane, of 59 years; son, Stephen (Janet Tomlinson); daughter, Christina (Mark Laughlin) and his much-loved grandson, Kees Tomlinson VanHerk; sister, Connie, Kelowna, B.C.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Willem, Gerry and Abraham; sister, Niesje.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Ettinger Funeral Homes Shubenacadie and Elmsdale. As requested, there will be no visitation or funeral. A burial will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at Colchester East Hants Health Centre and Dr. Wells for their care of Paul.
