Bessie was very kind to me when I moved to Toronto back in the 70’s. She generously helped me furnish my apartment. We shared some great meals and laughs in her kitchen when our Mothers came to visit. Bessie had a heart of gold. Condolences to the family.

This picture was taken the day Bessie drove to Baldwin’s nursery in Falmouth to purchase a variegated maple which our garden club presented to Nancy Doane to commemorate her 80th birthday. That tree stands majestically at the top of Nancys driveway & I will alway remember Bessie when I’m in Nancys drive.
Taken around 24 May 2016

Love this picture of Bessie on her 81st birthday. We were not yet back to having social gatherings (due to COVID), so I made this little mini birthday cake & dropped by her house; donned my mask & sang Happy Birthday as I came through the door! I remember sitting down by the warm wood stove & saying to her maybe bringing cake to a diabetic & blowing candles out isn’t such a good idea & Bessie said “I think it’s a great idea, thank you”! I don’t think we light the candles & have no idea if the cake ever got eaten but I do remember we did had a few good laughs.

I will miss you my friend. In the strawberry season of the early 90's Ruth came up to the field and asked me if I had seen Bessie, I asked her who is Bessie ,she said well she is just Bessie, and she drove away. I did get to know Bessie when she joined us in the U-pick.
We became good friends. I will miss her humor and wit. Rest in peace my Sister in law and friend.

Such a great loss. Bessie and my mother Marion were Mount A dorm mates and life long friends from that point on, as Bessie was with so many of her college day chums. After my mother passed 19 years ago Bessie stepped right up and became a surrogate Grandmother to our boys.
So many memories, she will be greatly missed.

What a loss for all. Bessie was a fountain of knowledge - whether it was identifying plants, talking about interesting and inventive recipes she had made, or sharing family history and how it was often connected to others in the community. I will always remember her sitting in her chair at the Rawdon location of our garden club sales, sharing her knowledge, identifying plants for others either from memory or her trusty reference book.

My family met Bessie many years ago and we had a long lasting friendship between Ann Arbor, then Toronto and finally Nova Scotia. While she was not "family" blood wise all of us fellas if she was. Her cooking, gardening, stories, all with a smile as she told them. Anyone lucky enough to meet her had a friend for life, truly one of a kind and will live long in our memories.

I first met Bessie when I attended the University of Michigan, School of Public. She became a valued friend to me me and my entire family. When then moved to Canada in 1974 when Bessie invited me to work with her in Ontario's Ministry of Health. It's thanks to Bessie that we are priviledged to live in Canada this day.
We extend our sincere condolences to her family.
Also, our thoughts and prayers are with Bessie , for she is now resting and enjoying herself in God's House.
