Obituary of Glen Wentzell
Please share a memory of Glen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Glen Robert Wentzell, 84, of Fort Ellis, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax. Glen was born December 26, 1929 in Upper Branch, Nova Scotia to the late Harold and May (Cook) Wentzell. He was a cook for the Canadian Lumber Company, Creelman and Sons Lumber, McNutt's Pulp, Colchester Correctional Centre and the Nova Scotia Youth Training Centre. A generous man, his family, visits from friends, cooking holiday feasts and growing flowers were his passions. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend but to most who knew him he was Pop-E.
He was kind, caring, funny and so full of love. Many people would say that he and Ruth did not live in a house - they lived in a home. A home that was always welcoming to family and friends and a home where the coffee pot was always on and candy dishes always full. A home he was proud of and a home where no matter where you were from, he made you feel like it was your own. Although quiet, Glen held a presence not seen in many. He was handsome and charismatic. His children were his pride and joy. He loved and he was loved.
Glen is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth (Matthews/Crouse), children Joan (George) Babineau, Mickael (Debbie) Crouse, Myra (Darrell) Creelman, Vernon (Esther) Crouse, Leota Dickey and the late Harold (Cathy) Wentzell and daughter-in-law, Darlene. Pop-E is also survived by his grandchildren, Brian (Amanda), Jeff, Randy (Laura), Jennifer (Brett), Andrea (Kevin), Amber, Kathleen, Roddy (Carrie), Robbie, Paxton, Emily, Jacob, Justina and Jordan. Pop-E was also a proud great grandfather to Lily, Leah, Joaquin, Austin, Gehrig, Emmerson and Braden. Glen is survived by his sister, Rita (Laurie) Zinck and sister-in-law, Reta. He was predeceased by his brothers Earl, Max, Rex, Ronald and Mark.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 17 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm at Ettinger Funeral Home in Shubenacadie. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 18 at 2pm at Ettinger Funeral Home. Flowers are welcomed. Donations may be made to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada or charity of choice.
