Obituary of Mardy Horne

Please share a memory of Mardy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

HORNE, Margaret Rose “Mardy” -age 85, of Enfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 19, 2024 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Owen and Margaret (Salzman) Meldrum.

She was married for 64 years to the man of her dreams, Leo. They were known for their unwavering love and for sharing this love with family, friends, acquaintances, and the community. Mardy was a supportive wife and mother and made it her life's work to make a happy home for Leo and their family. She was very proud of this and felt it was one of her greatest achievements in life.

Every day was a new adventure for her, she loved life and had a childlike presence that encouraged her children and grandchildren to embrace every day. She taught them to find joy in the little things, to love and be accepting of others, to love animals, enjoy cooking, reading, and the outdoors. She allowed them to dump their toybox out, use their imagination, and feel a sense of accomplishment when everything was cleaned up.

She remained active until the end, she always had small projects on the go and loved to craft, read, puzzle, play Trouble, and watch YouTube. She was always excited to share her current projects. She loved to bake and was well-known for her award-winning Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies- which she shared freely.

Mardy was driven by the connections she made throughout her life. She enjoyed all her in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She spent many years as a summer camper at Sully's campground, she enjoyed cards with Bonnie and Clyde, fun outings with Myrene and Vaughn, boat rides on Grand Lake with Nancy and Sharon and spending time at the Owls Nest with family and friends. It is fair to say where the action was, is where you would find her.

Mardy will be sadly missed by children, Wayne (Donna), Deb Curran, Gail Christie, and Linda (Sean) Coolen; grandchildren, Samantha, Leo, Cassandra, Brittany, Miranda, Samual, Krista and Jamie, great-grandchildren, Trinity, Eva, Naomi, Murphy, Callum, Skylear, Mia, Lexi and Lila; sisters-in-law, Nancy Ryan and Sharon Rochon (Bill); numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leo, and son-in-law, John Curran.

Cremation has taken place.
