Nicholas Halkyard

Obituary of Nicholas Scott Halkyard

HALKYARD, Nicholas Scott “Nick”  - March 28, 1997 – April 24,2024  of Stewiacke, passed away peacefully at home. Born in Truro he was the son of Scott and Nancy (Ferguson) Halkyard. Nick (or Nicholas as his uncle Keith would call him) was born in the old Truro hospital on March 28th, 1997. He wasn’t to be born until 8 weeks later, but he didn’t want to waste time getting onto this Earth.

Nick was a loyal, humble, thoughtful, kind young man who knew exactly what to say to everyone he spoke with. He loved his two cats, Tulip and Ozzy and they thought the world of him too. He would play a spring game almost every evening with Tulip and Ozzy would sit in the chair next to him while he ate supper. Although Nick and Toby, the family poodle, were not best friends, they tolerated each other for almost 17 years.

Nick had many close friends but in particular  Zack, Stephen and Brett. Friends since they were kids. They supported Nick, near or far, they remained in each others lives.

Nick was a Penguins fan and loved watching the hockey games with his Oiler’s loving dad, Scott. They even went to the Penguins game in Halifax this past October. He also loved skateboarding and had a big interest in cars.

Nick loved his family more than anything and had a bond like no other. He loved joking around with his brother-in-law, Brandon. They came up with all the inside jokes imaginable. Nick and Scott would grab coffee and breakfast all the time at the Stewiacke Robins. Nick and his sister Katelyn were the closest of siblings. The trust, respect and love between them was truly unmatched. There was nothing that ever came in between them. Nick and Nancy would always have supper together and talk about their day, connecting by sharing experiences and memories and love, lasting a lifetime.

Nick is survived by his parents, Nancy and Scott Halkyard; sister, Katelyn (Brandon) Greencorn; uncles, Keith, Mark, Trent and Quentin; aunt, Rita; and many cousins and extended family.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Donalda and Bailey Ferguson; paternal grandparents Frank and Marjorie Halkyard; aunts, Inez and June.
