Oh my! How sad her passing, yet wonderful to have had her, and your dad in my life for a time. She always seemed shy to me, but had such wonderful stories that we shared over our nursing careers. Her belief in parish nursing was so appreciated.
My sincere condolences to all of you. May her kind heart live on in all of you, and be a blessing.

Tanis, Dawn, and Families,
When we think of your Mom and Grandmother, « a life well lived comes to mind. » She truly embraced life and relationships. She was kind, caring and always spoke positively of others. Thinking of you in this difficult transition. So very sorry for your loss. This world was definitely a brighter place because of Ruth.

To me Ruth was always Mrs Witt, the smiling face every time the door was opened and I was welcomed into their home to visit. I recall she always had a smile and a sense of humor and made me feel like another member of the family. She managed a That big, sometimes rambunctious crowd of kids and I don't think anybody could have done it with more grace and humor.
Back in the days of landlines, us kids did our social networking on phone. One phone for the house of course. When I would call, I would say "It's just Wayne". Apparently, I learned years later, she found that quite amusing and would say "Just Wayne called."
To the whole family, I'm very sorry for your loss and want you to know that she always made me feel welcome and safe in her home. She was the greatest of moms.

Condolences to the Witt family. Your news of the passing of cousin Ruth came as a sad surprise. I kept in touch with Ruth mainly at Christmas time and the ocasional email with some family news. She was a very happy and loving person and will be missed. My wife Tanya and I visited Ruth and Ron at their home in Goderich and enjoyed hearing about their travels and rock collecting expeditions.
Ruth and her sister Mary were flower girls at the wedding of my mother and father (see photo) which I think was 1941. My mother, Florence (sister of Gordon) was very fond of Ruth and did keep in regular touch.
We share in your grief.

To Ruth’s family,
I will always have beautiful memories of Ruth. She was a true friend to my Mother, a dedicated faithful member of our Church and AMS, a person who never spoke ill of anyone, someone who saw the beauty in nature and loved animals, she brought weekly donations to Shumilacke Food Bank. She supported me in times of sadness and we both enjoyed our times at the Rock gardens in Bible Hill. She will be greatly missed.
Love,
Myrna

To Tanis and family,
Mum and I were so lucky to have the opportunity to be your mother's neighbor and to get to know her. The sweet emails I would receive over the years has meant so much to me. I miss our little Tim Horton's treats we use to have. Mum thought the world of Ruth as I did.
I wish you could have seen the look on your mother's face when I offered her a quilt that Mum had made. Not everyone is into quilts but I knew how much love Mum had put into every stitch and I knew Ruth would appreciate that love too. She use to tell me how much she loved walking by the spare bedroom and seeing that quilt on the bed. I know Mum would be so happy and proud of me for giving Ruth the quilt. I hope someone in your family can get the chance to enjoy the quilt as much as Ruth did.
My deepest condolences to the Witt family. Ruth will be dearly missed!!

My fondest memories was seeing Ruth come in and collect five or six copies of the Weekly Press to give a copy to a new family coming in East Hants. She was our representative for the Welcome Wagon. Ruth was perfect for the job. Many years later we connected again through Tanis. She would visit at our place of employment. She was a pleasant person to talk to.

In memory of a dear friend Ruth, who put everyone, which includes her beloved pets, before self.
She and Ron have left a family who were taught and shown love and respect for others . ..not what one GETS in life but what one GIVES in life and that alone is a blessing and a gift.
As I reflex about Ruth I always smile and give thanks for her friendships and many happy memories .One of the best memories was her excitement of being part of a choir that sang at Carnegie Hall .The second memory was when she babysat my cat and had provide a stool at the window so Maggie could watch the birds . Ruth was the example of LOVE .A beautiful soul and I will miss my friend and give thanks for having been her friend.

Dawn, Tanis and the Witt family. Your mother was a special soul. She reached out in many ways and made quiet waves wherever she went. She and my mom were friends and when my mother died, your mother called me on the first Christmas without her to tell me she was thinking of us all. Again, a special soul. It was good to see her this past weekend and I am so glad to have had that short moment in light of this news. Sending many warm thoughts your way. Linda A

48 years ago my wife, Rita and I met your mom and dad in the far reaches of Canada’s north, in Yellowknife, N.W.T. In October of 1976, I packed up my car and drove from Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan where I was working for the then Dept. of Indian Affairs to begin a new adventure working with Ron, your dad.
Rita and my 1 year old daughter remained in Fort Qu’Appelle until our house was sold and they would then join me in December. I was only 27 years old at the time, and when I was first invited to your home to share an evening meal with your family, I felt like I became a member of a wonderful extended family!
Both your parents were gracious to a fault. And we loved having each of you girls babysit our Tara and later Tawna for us.
We came North to experience the new life for a couple of years, but as it was our choice to move here, we ended up staying for thirty four years until retiring to Saskatchewan in 2011.
We stayed because of the friendships we made with your dad and mom, Gary and Doreen Mullins and Barry and Carla Irwin who all worked for DIAND.
Rita and I were indeed fortunate to reconnect with your mom after moving to Nova Scotia. We loved receiving her annual Christmas letters and we looked forward to reading about all the activities of the children she loved and worshipped.
We will remember her smiles and quiet laughter. Ruth will be missed. Please accept our deepest condolences!
Terry and Rita Brown, Humboldt, Saskatchewan.

We have many fond memories of Ruth but the 2 that come to mind right away are the tales she used to tell us of her and Ron’s rock hunting trips and the beautiful long letters she used to write us. The letters were always written in detail catching us up on all the family news. No one could write a letter like Ruth. Ruth always enjoyed attending her nursing class reunions. She was a faithful friend and colleague to all her nursing friends. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

To Ruth’s family,
What a beautiful mom and grandmother Ruth was to you all. She loved you all so very much.
As Tanis and I have been friends since grade 12 and roommates in university, I was always welcomed at your home. Your mom was like another mom to me. She was so sweet, kind and generous.
One of my last visits with her was about a year ago when she wanted to take Tanis and I to lunch. We had a lovely visit and she was determined to pay. She showed me around her home and shared pictures, paintings and where many of her beautiful things came from. Memories were very important to her of all the places you lived.
May the memories of your mom and grandmother bring you comfort at this time as the memories you made together were such a comfort and joy to her.
Today I picked up garbage and Wade planted a tree. A couple of small tributes to a very special lady who loved nature so very much.
Take care of each.
