Obituary of Connie Isenor
ISENOR (BUCHANAN), Constance Mary “Connie”- It is with extreme sadness that we share the peaceful passing of our beloved wife and mother, Connie. She passed on August 8th, 2024, at the VG Site, QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, surrounded by her loving family.
Age 67, of Lantz, Connie was born in Sydney, Cape Breton to the late Robert and Gladys (Power) Buchanan. After suffering the loss of her father at the age of 6, Connie learned some of her most important qualities, her strength and independence, from her own mother. This helped shape her into the loving and empathetic woman we all knew and loved.
Connie was passionate about health sciences and spent over 40 years working as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. Most of those years were spent in the Pathology Department at the IWK Health Centre. Her love and compassion for her job was made evident to anyone who had the privilege to learn from her. She always made a point to keep her mind sharp, and loved sharing her knowledge with anyone and everyone.
Connie had many hobbies throughout the years including sewing, crafting, reading (she always had a book on the go), and baking (her peanut butter balls go unmatched). Connie was an avid gardener and spent countless hours in her yard creating the most special and beautiful gardens. She would expand on her gardens each year after a trip to the valley with her beloved (late) sister Maggie, despite Mike’s objections. Connie loved to take anyone who was willing on one of her famous “garden tours.”
Throughout the years, Connie was an avid member of the local dance community. First as a Dance Mom and then spending several years working behind the scenes at different dance competitions across the Maritimes.
Connie and Mike both enjoyed their yearly trips to Cuba with their closest friends. Some of their fondest and most funny memories as a couple came from those trips.
Above all else, Connie's greatest joy came from her family. In the later years of Connie’s life, she got to experience her greatest gifts, her three grandchildren. Nanny loved spending time with her grandbabies and could usually be found reading books, singing songs, doing crafts, baking, playing school, or dressing up with silly accessories for their entertainment.
Connie will be sadly missed by her husband of 41 years, Mike; daughters, Holly (Brent) MacSween and Alexa (Jon Kinney) Isenor; grandchildren, Emerson, Cameron and Charlie; sister, Cynthia “Cindy” Gillis (Scott MacKnight); brother-in-law, Harold “Hunky” Morrison; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Marguerite “Maggie” Morrison and her infant son.
We would like to thank Dr. Ghanem and the staff at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, as well as Dr. Witter and the rest of the incredible ICU staff at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Elmsdale and Shubenacadie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Enfield Fire Hall from 2-4 PM Sunday, August 18, 2024, with personal remarks to be shared at 3PM.
Memorial donations in Connie’s honour may be made to the I.W.K Foundation.
Tributes, words of comfort, and memories of Connie may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com.
Mama - you taught us to be strong, independent women and most importantly, you showed us what it means to be a wonderful mother. Your wisdom and guidance was second to none. How incredibly lucky we are to have been blessed with a Mother like you. We love you, always and forever.
