Obituary of Annie Liazetta Weatherhead

WEATHERHEAD, Annie Liazetta – age 83 passed away peacefully on September 26th, 2024 in Oakwood Terrace, Dartmouth. Born in Upper Kennetcook, she was a daughter of the late Bertrand “Bertie” and Mary Robina “Beanie” (Burton) Lantz.

Annie was born and raised in Upper Kennetcook and lived in Halifax where she worked at MT&T until she met the love of her life, Keith. Keith and Annie built their home and raised their children in Upper Rawdon where they lived until they returned to her family farm in Upper Kennetcook. She lived briefly in Enfield before moving to Oakwood Terrace. No matter where she lived, she found friends and a sense community as a member and volunteer with the church (St. David’s in Upper Rawdon and St. Peter’s in Upper Kennetcook), as a Brownie leader, 4-H leader, the ACW, the Upper Kennetcook Community Hall or whatever other group needed a volunteer; she was unlikely to say no. Whatever her children were involved in, Annie was there to cheer them on from woodsman competitions, tug-of-war, square dancing, to public speaking, you’d find Annie at the sidelines clapping along. She was fiercely proud of her children, David and Lisa. Annie loved to dance, so it should not have been a surprise when she took step dance lessons well into her 50s and started performing with her friends at local community and church events. Annie loved to travel and enjoyed many adventures over the years across North America and a trip to the UK.

Annie and Keith were proud of their farm and their gardens and were always happy to welcome old friends and new for a visit no matter how early in the morning they would arrive. No matter who showed up at the table, there was always room for one more and always enough food to go around and they usually left with an armload of vegetables from the garden and a bottle of pickles from her pantry. A lot of family, friends and neighbours enjoyed her pies, squares and dinners, but Annie was likely best known for her butterscotch pie, baked beans and brown bread.

We are forever grateful for the friendships mom made at every stop along her way and especially for the care she received at Oakwood Terrace.

Annie lived life looking for the good, no matter how challenging things were and set an example for all of us.

Annie is survived by her son, David (Sue), Hayward, WI; daughter, Lisa (Ryan), Cole Harbour; brother, Bill (Anne) Lantz; sisters, Norma Marshall, Jean Bond, Brenda (Harley) White; sisters-in-law, Wilma Duncan, Verna Chernoff, Doreen Weatherhead, Nancy Weatherhead; brother-in-law, Dick (Elsbeth); many special nieces and nephews and step grand and great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Keith; an infant son; son, Danny; sister, Phyllis Publicover; several brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
