Please share a memory of Roderick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BELMORE, Roderick Earle, Danville, Pennsylvania formerly of Caribou Gold Mines. It is with great sadness that the family of Roderick Earle Belmore, 58, announces his passing, on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. Born into a family of six girls, he was the cherished and only son of Bernard Belmore and Eleanor (Taylor) Belmore. Rod was born on December 10, 1955 at the Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital. Weighing only 2 lbs and 8 oz., he was, at that time, the smallest baby to survive in a Nova Scotia outpost hospital. The same determination and strength that he showed as a newborn, he carried through his valiant fight with cancer. Rod grew up in his beloved home of Caribou Gold Mines, Nova Scotia. He attended Greenwood Elementary School and Musquodoboit Rural High School. His passion from early childhood was vehicles. He studied, made intricate drawings, assembled models, reconstructed and restored them. His biggest delight came with the improvisation and jury-rigging that got them on the road. He had a creative, inventive mind, coming up with and executing novel ideas much to the entertainment of his family. Rod loved music, playing the organ in several rock bands while in high school. He attended Dalhousie University School of Engineering. Rod worked at Viking Cable in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia for 15 years. While there, he was a member of The Yarmouth Kinsmen Club. In 1991, he moved to Pennsylvania where he fell in love with and married Gail Warntz. Danville became his new home. Rod took great pride in being an employee of Frontier Communications where he was much valued for his stellar work ethic and dedication. He made lifelong friends wherever he went, regaling them with his quick wit and hilarious story telling. A deep thinker, Rod also appreciated nature and the serenity that came with fishing, watching the night sky through his telescope and listening to music while working on many projects in his shed. Family meant the world to Rod and he will be sadly missed by his devoted wife Gail, his daughter Valerie Warntz - Humphries (Steve) whom he referred to as his 'rock' and, as he promised, walked her down the aisle on her recent wedding day of October 11th, his little buddy and apple of his eye, grandson Aaron, stepson James Cero, sisters, Bonnie Price (Errol Goudey), Dianne Englund, Glenda Burrows (Ken), Betty Belmore (Bill Stevenson), Kathy Didkowsky (John), sisters in law, Connie Warntz Martin (Russell), Kathy Warntz - Beaver, brother in law, Larry Warntz (Peggy), 22 nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernie and Dolly Belmore, sister, Shirley-Dale Easley, brothers in law, Gordon Price and Roy Englund. The family wishes to express their immense gratitude to the oncology team at the Geisinger Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at St. James United Church, Upper Musquodoboit on Monday, October 27th at 1 p.m. Interment will occur at the Hillcrest Cemetery following the service. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
