Obituary of Marion Rosalita Lytle

LYTLE, Marion Rosalita 94, of Enfield, Hants Co.,died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 11, 2015. Born in Truro on August 6, 1920, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Marguerite (White) Scott. She lived most of her life in Enfield and could vividly describe the village as it was from the 1920s onward, as well as her high school days in Rockingham in the 30s, and Halifax during wartime. She graduated from Mount Saint Vincent Academy In 1937 and attended alumnae reunions for many years. In the 1940s and 1950s, she worked for Simpson’s Department Store in Halifax, and from 1956 to 1980 at the former Eastern Canada Savings and Loan Company on Granville Street (later Central Trust, and now part of the TD Group). All her life, she was an active member of her community. She was a Life Member of the Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia and a founding member, in 1956, of the Enfield Branch, where she served in numerous capacities over nearly sixty years. In later years, she served as branch secretary, faithfully writing the minutes by hand, until into her 90s. She was also a founding member of the Enfield Heritage Society. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church in Enfield and served on the Parish Council on various committees for over twenty years, and was a former Lay Reader at Mass and Lay Minister of Communion. She was a founding member of the St. Bernard’s Catholic Women’s League in the 1960s and was pleased to see the group revived in the 1990s. Her faith and her family were the centre of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Doyle (Buddy) of Enfield, who cared for her mother devotedly in her final years; five grandchildren: Colin Doyle, Osaka, Japan; Lauchlin Doyle (Marie), St. John’s, NL; Suzanne Belliveau (Robert), Kanata, ON; Sarah Hines (Glen), Enfield; and Rebecca Mazzorana (Dario), Halifax; and her great-grandchildren: Alex and Chris Doyle, Cory Belliveau, Scott Hines, Delia and Matteo Mazzorana. She is also survived by her nephews Terry Wilson (Brenda), Sault Ste. Marie, ON; Shawn Wilson (Darlene), Surrey, BC; and Jeffrey Morrison (Margaret), Fall River, and their families. She was predeceased in 1990 by her husband of 48 years, Edward C. Lytle, and in 1992 by her younger sister, Marguerite (Peggy Wilson Morrison). Visitation will be 6-9pm this evening, at St. Bernard’s Church, Enfield. The funeral will be held at 11am on Tuesday, July 14th, Father Michael Walsh officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Reception to follow in the church basement.
