Obituary of Garry Leon Goodwin

GOODWIN, Garry Leon, age 81, passed away on Friday November 13, 2015 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in East Stewiacke, he was a son of the late Edward and Blanche (Nelson) Goodwin. Garry was employed by the Royal Bank of Canada for over 35 years, the last several as manager of the Royal Bank in Stewiacke. Garry’s passion for grassroots aviation was well known throughout the Maritimes. His interest in airplanes started as a young boy and he received his private pilots license in his early 20’s. Later he became involved in building airplanes. He was a lifetime member of the Stanley Sport Aviation Association, where he attended the annual fly-in for 43 of the 44 years, missing only this past fall. He is survived by sisters Margaret Goodwin of East Stewiacke, Joyce Goodwin of Halifax and brother Ronald of La Luz, New Mexico. He is also survived by nieces Lisa Keshen of Red Deer, Alberta, Laurena Cox of Edmonton, Alberta and Faye Coady of Fall River, several great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Arlene and brother Allan. A funeral service will be held 2pm Tuesday November 17, 2015 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Rev. David LeBlanc officiating. A reception will take place in the funeral home reception area immediately after the service. The interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, East Stewiacke. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the nursing staff and doctors at the Truro Hospital.
