HARE, Catherine Mary “Polly”
Mom’s life came to a peaceful conclusion today after almost 89 years (18 Dec 1927—07 Dec 2016) at her home in Alma, N.S. with close family members at her side. Throughout her lifetime, she was dedicated to her family and held all of them in her heart and memory until the very end. Dementia and heart problems were no match for her amazing determination to survive and maintain her close ties with friends and family.
After leaving school at age 14, she went to work at the N.S. Sanatorium in her hometown of Kentville. While there during WW11 in 1944, she met and married a young soldier, Reginald Ray Hare. In 1947, they moved to Picton, Ontario and raised four sons. After returning to Nova Scotia in 1961, Mom joined the staff of Cara Operations at the Halifax International Airport as a waitress, cook and hostess until the mid 1970’s. She later worked at Millie’s restaurant and later John Stanhope’s Diner and Enfield Pizzeria.
Mom is survived by her sons, Peter (Mary), their children Pam Davis and Tammy Gouthro, Wayne (Annette), their children Elisha (Jim McComb), Katie and Laura, Terry(Janet), their children Michelle and Christina Campbell(Gerard), daughter-in-law Theresa(Terry), her children Simon (Cassandre), Sarah (Jonathan Roode), Menolly (Dan Miner) and Alix.
