Obituary of Chuwaponehpit Ivy Rose Toney

Chuwaponehpit Ivy Rose Toney of Sipekne’katik and Sipayik First Nation passed away suddenly on January 28, 2017, surrounded by her family and friends. Ivy was born May 19, 1978 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia to Francis Toney (Sipekne’katik) and Maynard Stanley (Sipayik). She leaves behind two beautiful daughters, Chalise Toney-Schnare and Icysis Toney. She is survived by siblings Stephanie Toney, Eugene Stanley, Alan “Burtyosta” Toney, Reginald Toney, Samantha Gloade, and step-sister Cora May Francis. She is survived by Grandmother Isabelle Knockwood and Grandfather Joseph Toney. Predeceased by Grandparents Bertha and John Stanley. Survived by nieces & nephews Pushquadashe, Wauntakodi, Unique, Aurora, John Alan II, Dawson, Gracie-Rose, Dakota, Andrew, Syliby, Easten, and Thane. She is also survived by her godson Lucas Francis. Ivy Rose shared many side-steps, dances, songs and laughter with her Powwow Family, whom continue to cherish and celebrate her memory. She was predeceased by siblings Melvin and Carol-Lee. Visitation will begin at 12 noon Wednesday at 50 Poplar Street, Indian Brook and will continue until Saturday, when a Traditional Ceremony will be held at 2pm at the Sipekne'katik Multipurpose Centre, 185 Sesame Street. Following the ceremony a feast with Salite will be held.
