Obituary of Earl Joseph MacDonnell

MacDONNELL, Earl Joseph- age 81, a lifelong resident of Enfield, passed away peacefully at his home on May 29, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was a son of the late Albert and Anna (Cole) MacDonnell.
Earl worked as a mechanic for Wood Motors Ford and Nova Scotia Power until his retirement in 1993. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and proud member of the Enfield Deer Club and Royal Canadian Legion Montgomery Branch 133, Enfield.
He enjoyed a good game of darts and cards, but his passion was music, especially listening to fiddle music and playing the spoons while enjoying the company of family and great friends. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humour. He enjoyed many years at Sutherlands Lake, Spencer’s Island and Mushaboom, and in later years travelling with Linda across the country; but his favorite place to be was home.
He is survived by his wife, Linda McKay; sons, James, Dale (Kathy) MacDonnell; daughter, Sheila Ashley; stepson, Christopher McKay (Marlo); grandchildren, Sarah, Meghan (Kyle) Isenor, Michael and Stephen MacDonnell, Nicole (David Robar) and Tyler Ashley; step grandchildren, Katelynn (Stephane), Laura Langille; great grandchildren, Chase and Beckett Isenor; step great grandchildren, Odessa, Brannon, Caleb Langille; sisters, Shirley( Nelson) Bellefontaine, West Chezzetcook; Doreen (Harley) Beaver, Elmsdale; Joan Schiavetta, Patsy Carroll, Bernice (LeRoy) Bailey, Barbara Dearman, all of Enfield; brothers, Rod (Joan), Danny (Shirley), Enfield; sisters in law, Rosemary Boutilier, Mushaboom; Frances (David) Webber, Middleton and Vera Power, ON; brother in law, Thomas Conrod, Dartmouth; John Fitzgerald, Musquodoboit Harbour; Daniel Wood, North Carolina; many nieces and nephews, as well as his fishing and hunting buddy, Charlie Ashley.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris (Fisher); infant twin sons, Theodore and Anthony; sister, Dorothy Conrod; brothers in law, Charlie Carroll, Junior Dearman and Joseph Schiavetta.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Wednesday, May 31 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. A Funeral Service will be held 11am Thursday June 1 in St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, Enfield, Father Michael Walsh officiating. Reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Enfield.
Family flowers only. Donations in Earl’s memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch or a charity of choice.
