Obituary of Dorothy Mae Streatch

Streatch, Dorothy Mae (Isenor) - age 94, of Meaghers Grant, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2017 in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musqudoboit Harbour. Born in Carrols Corner, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Grace (Neiforth) Isenor. Dorothy grew up on a farm in Carrolls Corner. She graduated from Normal College and became a teacher. She taught for a few years, and then stayed home to raise her family. She continued to tutor throughout the years, and was a true teacher at heart. She had a strong passion for learning, and reading was one of her favorite pastimes, one that she enjoyed for all of her 94 years. She loved being outside. She was happiest in her vegetable or flower gardens, at the apple tree, picking her blueberries, or just "scratching around" the yard. She enjoyed playing cards (but never on Sunday!). Dorothy was a dedicated, loving wife to Earl, the love of her life. A highlight of her days was spending time with her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a caring mother to her daughters and a great friend to many. She is survived by daughters, Glenda Dean, Meaghers Grant; Norma (Brooke)Taylor, Chaswood; son in law, Gardner Dean, Upper Musquodoboit; grandchildren, Julie (David Jack)Taylor, Aaron Dean, Trevor (Tara) Taylor, Leanne (Andy) Streatch; sister, Mildred Shewfelt. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Streatch; siblings, Harley, Ruth, Margaret, Donald, Ferris and Fenton; sisters in law, Civilla Streatch, Marie (Henry) Moore; brother in law, Austin (Mildred) Streatch. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the homecare workers from Northwood; they made her life at home comfortable, and she valued their companionship over the years. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held 2pm Wednesday, September 13 in St. James United Church, Meaghers Grant, Rev. Dr. Linda Yates officiating. Interment in the Meaghers Grant Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Meaghers Grant Community Centre. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
