Dear Myrene and family, Vaughn was a true gentleman and will be missed. I remember him being one of the first people I met when I joined the Executive of the Enfield Legion. He was Treasurer at the time and took me under his wing. He was a great mentor over the years and I feel privileged he felt comfortable passing the torch to the next generation knowing he taught us well. On behalf of the current Executive and members of the Enfield Legion, I extend sincere condolences to all the family and hope it brings some comfort to know how well liked and respected Vaughn was in our community. My sincerest condolences go out to the Horne family. I have very fond memories of Vaughn when I first joined the Marine Division in 1962 and my first posting was in Halifax where I first met him on the patrol vessel “Wood”. He was somewhat of Mentor to myself and other younger members and you might say kept us under his wing. Always there to give a helping hand when called upon. DJ, Jonathan, Bethany, Holly, Amber, Julia, Savannah, and Bobby I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your Grandfather. I know it has been a long time since I have seem many of you but I want to let you know your community is wanting to console each of you in some small way, in your loss of a very special Grandad. Your family has had your own example of a veteran of service to his country, his community and fellowman.. Hold on to your special memories and to his great love and pride in each of you. Myrene and all your family; Vanda and David, Ann and Wade, Maria and Rob, and son Vaughn, My sincerest condolences on your great loss. Even with 64 very special years together, Myrene, I am sure it is no easier to let one go before the other. Words can seem so useless at times; as many of your friends and community want to bring some peace to your great sorrow. May you each be consoled by each of your special moments together, Vaughn was respected and appreciated within our Legion Branch and our Community. He welcomed many a "younger legionnaire" to take an active role in the Aims and Objectives of our service organization. I feel privileged to have journeyed through many meetings/projects over the years; learning from men like Vaughn. May his commitment to service to others reward him with a heavenly welcome home! May the faith that we will meet again for an eternity, with no more pain or suffering slowly ease your grief. I will be in to see you Myrene soon. Sending love to all

I worked with Vaughan at the Kingston Detachment back in the 60's and had a few memorable trips with him and his crew on the Cutknife II. Vaughan was the epitome of a gentleman and friend.
