Obituary of George Allan Murphy

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Murphy, G. Allan aka Big Al, Al, Murph – age 76, of Cole Harbour/Summerside. It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Allan Murphy on May 15th in the Dartmouth General Hospital.

Allan was born on January 6th, 1947, in Summerside to the late Ken and Beulah (née Farquharson) Murphy, both of Prince Edward Island.  His father's career took the family all across Canada.  Perhaps it was this start in life that sparked Allan's love of travel?  It might have been that first run to Florida with a few of his friends!

Studying to be a mechanic, Allan worked many years with Forbes Chev-Olds before retiring early.  Generous and kind, Allan used the time after he left work to devote himself to his family.  Caring for his mother-in-law Sadie and grandchildren during those early retirement years.  Still leaving time for camping and weekends in Ship Harbour or back to Prince Edward Island.

When he finally took some time for himself, he and his wife Melda traveled to Prince Edward Island in the summers and Florida in the winters.  Trips back to Prince Edward Island not only reconnected him with his childhood friends but gained him new ones.  Seasonal stays in Florida gave him friends all over Canada and the US.  Throwing in some tropical vacations for good measure!  Allan made lasting friendships during his travels.

It was Allan's dedication to family and friends and maintaining those relationships that join us all together.  Whether in Dartmouth with Muggs or a Friday night in Florida with Everett, Gerald, and Donnie; Allan enjoyed a good game of pool.  And no matter where he was, he enjoyed live music both listening and performing.  We are sure he is jamming now with Sonny and Bill G. belting out 'Farewell Party' once again.

Left to mourn are his wife of 28 years, Melda; his sons, Allan (Gail), Tim (Wendy), Doug (Colleen), Kenny; daughter, Lisa; bonus daughter, Raelene; grandchildren, Kristie (Jordon), Kara, Morgan, Riley, Alisha, Magen, Scott, Victoria (DeeJay), Emily, and Carter; great-grandchildren, Alleigh, Presley, Charlie, Grace, Nicholas, Kloie, Kiera, Kali, Kyah, Chance, Jaiden and Jacob; brothers, Don (Sue), Bryan (Hermaine), Wayne (Michele), Ross; sisters, Deb (Rick) and Lynn.

He joins not only his parents but his granddaughter Nicole on this last trip.
