Obituary of Bill Henneberry

HENNEBERRY, William Earl “Bill” – age 81 of Shubenacadie, passed away at home on August 29th, 2023. Born in Devil’s Island, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Aletha Henneberry.

To my family:

If you are reading this, I am hunting with my father or sitting out with Faye.

I am survived by a lot of people; too many to put in one obituary; you know who you are. I am predeceased by my mother, Aletha Henneberry; father, Benjamin Henneberry, sister, Cecelia MacKenzie and my wife, Faye Henneberry (Williams).

I want to say thank you for everyone that took the time to visit me, even if it had been a while; you will never know how much I enjoyed every visit, especially if you brought some scratch tickets.

I know family sometimes gets out of touch with each other, through misunderstandings, and sometimes life takes us in different directions; that does not mean that I did not love you.

I want to remind my children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that I love you all and I will look over you always.

The best way to remember me is through laughter, my kung fu mastery on the dance floor and being a super crib player. If I could not remember your name at the time, I really did know who you were, yes, I thought I was funny.

From your family:

Our Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather was an avid hunter, swimmer and loved fishing. Dad enjoyed going fishing, hunting and digging clams with Winston, his brother- in-law, or whomever would go. Dad grew up on Devil’s Island and moved to Eastern Passage when he was young; he had fourteen brothers and sisters, and no matter what, loved them all. He was a welder by trade and worked for a few different companies throughout his lengthy career.

Dad loved to make people laugh, even when he was not feeling up to it; look out if you did laugh, there would be more jokes to come, whether you wanted them or not.

Dad came everywhere with us, Mexico, Cuba, Florida and to Ottawa to see his granddaughters, just to name a few. It did not matter if we were driving or flying; he was glad to go on any trip with his family. He would even go on lengthy kayak trips with us, in which he had to be the first one back no matter what. Dad loved adventures and did what he could to ensure everyone that went was looked after, no matter who you were. He also enjoyed telling and showing all of us how to do things properly, which was his way, of course.

If his kids or grandkids were doing something, he would too; he could not be out done. He went on roller coasters with us while holding on to his teeth. Dad would set up the slip and slide and he would show the young ones how it was done.

Dad, you helped each of us through hard times in one way or another. Do not worry, your jokes will carry on long after you are gone.

We love you and will miss you everyday!

Family after-life party:        

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life with reception will be held from 1 – 3 PM on Wednesday, September 6^th, 2023, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie.

All Family that can attend the after-life party must come with a funny story to share because laughter is what he loved best.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation.
