Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Withrow
WITHROW, Mary Elizabeth (Bond) - age 90, of Center Rawdon, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024 at the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Born on the family farm in Upper Rawdon on August 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Murial (Custance) Bond.
Mary lived and worked almost all her life in Rawdon in the community she loved. She taught school for 35 years starting in a one room schoolhouse at age 16 followed by a few other local schools until she settled herself at Rawdon District Elementary where she taught for the rest of her career. She was a tireless volunteer for the church, a long term UCW member, she loved working with the Firettes, she played an important role in the annual July 1st picnics, and was a proud member of the Eastern Star. After retirement, Mary and John loved their winters spent in Florida and could not wait to get away each year. She loved to bake, she loved to quilt, and she believed in the value of hard work, so her hands were rarely idle. Her family, her community, teaching school and her life on the farm is what gave her life meaning and joy.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her son, Harold (Christine) Withrow; daughter, Ruth (John) Grant; grandchildren, Megan Withrow, Caleb Grant and Isaac Grant; step grandchildren, Cory (Melissa) Millett, Melissa Millett and Michelle Millett; sisters in law, Eloise Withrow, Jean Bond and Elsie Bond.
