Obituary of Jean Marie Scothorn

SCOTHORN, Jean Marie 89, of Hardwood Lands, passed away August 9, 2019, in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro, surrounded by her loving family.  

Born in Shubenacadie on June 28, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Willard and Bella (Aitken) Lacey.   Jean was a proud and loving wife of Alfred for 62 years; Alfred died in 2011, but together they developed Scothorn Farms and Alf and Jean’s Christmas Tree U-pick.  Jean had a love for life, family and friends.  Jean was a life member of A.M.S. and W.I.N.S. and a faithful member of the Hardwood Lands Presbyterian Church. She loved shopping, playing cards, sports, baking, knitting Christmas stockings, hosting annual horseshoe tournaments at the cottage, while still having time to share her love and smiles with everyone.

Jean is survived by sons Michael (Denise), Shubenacadie East; Gary (Eileen), Hardwood Lands; daughter Janet (Jeff) Everett, Moncton; daughters-in-law Marlene Scothorn (Ken), Scotch Hill, Nancy Lee Scothorn (Peter), Milford; 14 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Emily Lacey; Shirley Lacey; Norma Howlett; Frances Frame; and brother-in-law John (Gail) Scothorn and many nieces and nephews.  Jean will be missed by a large circle of family and friends.

She was predeceased by sons Reg and Donnie, daughter-in-law Nancy Ann, great grandson Luke Scothorn, brothers Roy and George and sister Elizabeth.

 Cremation has taken place.   Visitation will be held 6-8pm, Tuesday, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, from where the funeral service will be held 3 pm Wednesday, Rev. Beth Mattinson officiating.  Interment will be in the Hardwood Lands Cemetery.
